Returning from its covid-induced break, the Miss Jamaica World beauty pageant returned in 2022 with all its wonder and excitement! On Sunday, December 2, 2002, 25-year old medical student, Shanique Singh was crowned Miss Jamaica 2022 and many are certain that she'll bring home the world title. Winning three titles as this year's national beauty queen's event (beach beauty, talent and beauty with a purpose), the crowd erupted with pleasure at the event's location, Courtleigh Auditorium in Kingston, Jamaica.
As another Singh, Jamaica's longest reigning and former beauty queen makes headlines as she forays into the musical industry, Shanique follows her last namesake in making waves not only only Jamaica but the world. Thousands of congrats and well-wishes were given to Jamaica's 2022 beauty queen as she showcases her mint crown. With that said, the Singhs are a well-known name in Jamaica and is often coupled with greatness. Many are sure Shanique will perform no less at the upcoming Miss World beauty contest. Wearing the Miss Howard Johnson Realty and winning the talent section with a traditional Indian dance, Jamaica looks forward to seeing Shanique Singh shinning even further.
Shanique succeeds last year's queen, Khalia Hall. In second and third places, we have Linesha Davis Tahje Bennett. Her Beauty with a Purpose project is an intriguing and necessary one as her focus is sexual and reproductive health of females, done holistically. She now prepares to represent our likkle and tallawah island worldwide at the 71st Miss World pageant. Jamaica has won this global title four times.
Our very first world queen being Carol Joan Crawford in 1963, followed by Cindy Breakspeare in 1976 and probably the most famous queen, Lisa Hanna in 1993 and mostly recently, Toni-Ann Singh in 2019. Jamaica is one of five (5) countries to have four (4) or more having had this title.
We, at Destination Jamaica, wish Shanique Singh the best at the upcoming Worlds!
